Boombox – The Golden Years 1978–1983
is a fine art photography series documenting iconic 1980s boomboxes from the early hip-hop era.
Part of the Zeitgeist Collection
The Zeitgeist Collection brings together works from the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. It captures moments when culture becomes visible before it turns into history — in public space, in collective experiences, and in objects and people that express a certain attitude.
The photographs are clear, frontal, and reduced. They do not explain or reconstruct stories. Instead, they register states of being: presence, proximity, tension. People, places, and objects appear on equal footing as markers of their time.
The collection includes, among others:
Portrait of a Generation – The Love Parade Family
Comfort Zone (Cookies, Berlin)
and Boombox – The Golden Years 1978–1983
Together, they form a visual archive of urban culture in transition.
